Spinach

okay so now that im calm:

i weigh 119.8 lbs and i decided to add another day to my fast because this number is making me feel like a failure.
so that makes this a ten day fast and i should end on friday of this week.

i got bored, and started digging in the fridge last night, looking for food to pretend to eat, when i came across a bag of tossed baby spinach.
i picked it up, made sure to crinkle the bag so it was obvious i was digging in the fridge, and then turned it around to look at the calories just for fun.
i see 20 calories, scoff at the normality of the number and then the phrase '4 cups' catches my eye.
i turn the bag around again and see '20 calories for 4 cups' on the back.
i do the math, then convince myself there cant be 5 calories for every cup and that i simply cant divide right.
i have a minor heart attack and walk calmly to my moms laptop where i go to fitday [my savior] to confirm that yes, there are 5-6 calories for every cup of spinach.

why the hell didnt i know this?
i love spinach.
boiled, raw, any way its made i love it.

i think i just figured that since i like it, it must have too many calories for me to eat.
but im amazed.

i can get full on a cup of food a day.
which means that ill be able to eat as much as my stomach wants to get full [a cup] and still be able to eat more [another cup]
and have that equal 10 calories a day.
[which in my book is ridiculously low]
i can eat it raw with mustard or i can eat it cooked with salt.
i have officially found my miracle food.

and now, im not stressing out about what im going to eat when i end my fast.
im just going to eat tons of spinach.
and im going to actually enjoy it.


i feel better for right now.

  1. Spinach is totally wondrous! So good for you, so low cal, and if you close your eyes you can pretend it's potato chips :)

  2. Just try to remember that the larger the volume of food you allow yourself to eat, the more it will stretch out your stomach and cause you to feel empty when you do fast.

    As you cut down on the amount of volume of food you eat, your stomach will begin to shrink like an elastic band- so while spinach is the perfect filler for hunger pains, try not to ever exceed three to four cups of it in one sitting.
